Bitrate Comparison
Stream101 has put together a demo page to show you the difference between the various bitrates that we offer.
24KBPS
Observations:
Audio seems crackly and does not sound crisp. Actual music seems 'quiet' and more reserved.
Result:
24kbps works great for talking.
32KBPS
Observations:
Audio seems crackly but slightly more crips than 24KBPS. Music seems a bit louder and the sound 'range' is increased slightly.
Result: 32kbps is still not optimal for music, but would work for talking.
64KBPS
Observations:
Audio is significantly less crackly and much more clear than the 32KBPS. The range of the music is increased with the lower and higher sounds coming out more clear.
Result: 64kbps will work fine for a low budget, starter radio stat. 64kbs is slightly higher than AM radio quality.
96KBPS
Observations:
Audio is quite clear. The range of the music is almost 90% to the original audio track from the CD.
Result: 96kbps is a great place to start with a moderate budget for a music-oriented radio station. The radio stream will be around FM radio quality.
128KBPS
Observations:
Audio is almost 100% compared to the original audio track from the CD. The difference is extremely small.
Result:128kbps will provide the best sound for a radio station streaming music. Users, especially those with high quality radio systems, will appreciate the high quality stream.
